In this lesson, we will show you how to create and deploy creative variants.
To create a variant, start by uploading assets that you want to replace the default assets when the condition is satisfied. You can add these assets in the same way you add any element.
Once done, open the variant panel. It should look like this.
The process is simple.
-
Click add variant in the lower left corner.
-
Give the variant a name, then select an element.
-
Choose whether to show or hide the element (this will be triggered when the condition is satisfied).
-
You can add multiple elements to a single variant.
-
Once done, you have the ability to preview the variants from within the editor with the arrows at the bottom of the panel.
-
If everything looks good, go ahead and navigate to the summary page. Scroll down to the deployments section. Click “new deployment” - notice there is a field labelled “creative variant.” Click the dropdown.
-
Select “dynamic” - this will allow you to modify the conditions table so the system knows which variant to display. You also have the option to deploy one of the variants you created in place of the default assets, without a condition.
-
Notice the red warning symbol. This means you have “dynamic set” but have not included any conditions. If you do not define any conditions, the system won’t know the rules for choosing a variant, so it will simply display the default creative. Click “edit conditions table.”
-
The conditions table will load, and you will see a few options. Click “new condition” and an input for the date will automatically appear. Define the dates as input for the variant selection, then select the variant you want them to apply for. You can have several conditions associated with one variant, or several variants associated with one condition. We designed this system to be flexible for your needs!
-
Once your conditions are fully defined, go ahead and save the table. Click “preview” at the top right of the summary page.
-
Select the deployment you just created. The variant field should say “dynamic” (you cannot change this since you defined it in the deployment menu).
-
Click the Simulator button in the top right corner. This lets you “simulate” a date, and see how the variant logic plays out. Give it a try!
In the next few months, we’ll be releasing several updates for variants. More conditions, feed imports, and layout variants are a few things to get excited about.
